Without Venom there is no black metal, no thrash metal as we know it, and arguably no death metal either. Three blokes from Newcastle decided in 1979 that everything needed to be louder, filthier, and more blasphemous, and the entire extreme metal underground has been living in that debt ever since.

This tribute pulls together a pack of bands doing what tribute albums do best when they work: not replicating the originals, but running them through their own filter. Venom's catalogue, from Welcome to Hell through to Black Metal, is the kind of material that invites different interpretations across black, thrash, and proto-extreme metal.
