TIDFALL Circular Supremacy (2000) CD

Norwegian black metal at the turn of the millennium was a study in extremes, and Tidfall were one of the few acts pushing symphonic architecture into genuinely hostile territory. Circular Supremacy landed in 2000 on Nuclear Blast and announced a band with serious ambitions beyond the genre's established playbook.

Where a lot of symphonic black metal at the time was leaning into gothic grandeur or medieval theatre, Tidfall kept things claustrophobic and industrial-edged. The orchestration here doesn't soften anything, it sharpens it. Cold, mechanistic, and with a dark aesthetic that sits somewhere between second-wave Norwegian orthodoxy and something more futuristic and alien. A fascinating document from a band that deserved more attention than they got.
