Released in 2001, System of a Down's second record arrived like a wrecking ball through alternative metal, nu-metal, and everything in between. Serj Tankian's operatic howl against Daron Malakian's jagged riffs, Shavo and John holding the chaos together underneath, it shouldn't work as well as it does. Chop Suey, Aerials, Prison Song, the title track: this is a record that knew the world was broken before most people were ready to say it out loud. This 2017 reissue keeps it exactly as it should be.
