There are bands who play slow, and then there is SUNN O))), who have made slowness into a physical event. Pyroclasts is not an album you listen to. It is an album that happens to you.

Released in 2019, Pyroclasts was born from a daily ritual practice, each side a single sustained drone improvisation performed at the same time every day. The result is something closer to meditation or dread than anything you'd call a conventional metal record, but the drone metal roots are in there, deep in the earth like magma. Stephen O'Malley and Greg Anderson have been refining this particular darkness since the late nineties and here they've stripped it back to pure pressure, pure tone, pure dark ambient weight. If you came here from Electric Wizard, this will rewire something in your skull. If you already know SUNN O))), you know you need this on wax. Limited to 500 copies, so it's already half a miracle it's still available.
