SOLEFALD Neonism (1999) CD
1999 was a strange year to be a black metal band that wanted to talk about Nietzsche, technology, and the collapse of meaning, but Solefald had never really asked for permission anyway.
Neonism is the Norwegian duo's second album and one of the more genuinely weird entries in the late-90s avant-garde black metal canon. Where their debut flirted with the experimental, Neonism went fully off-script, folding in jazz textures, spoken word, clean vocals, and an almost industrial coldness into something that shouldn't work but absolutely does. Cornelius Jakhelln and Lazare were operating in the same orbit as Arcturus and Ved Buens Ende, artists who understood that black metal was a starting point, not a ceiling. This 2007 repress on Season of Mist keeps the original tracklist intact, including the essential sprawl of Philosophical Revolt and the unsettling closer Proprietaire de Monde.
