Better Off Dead is Sodom doing what Sodom do best, fast, ugly, and completely committed. Released in 1990 as the German thrash trio's third full-length, it sits in that golden moment where their earlier bestial rawness had sharpened into something genuinely menacing without losing any of the aggression. Tom Angelripper, Blackfire, and Chris Witchhunter were operating on instinct, and it shows. This is the 2005 repress on picture disc, which makes it both a piece of heavy metal history and the kind of thing that looks genuinely unhinged mounted on a wall. Punk in spirit, metal in execution, picture disc for the aesthetics.
