RUDIMENTARY PENI: Death Church Vinyl LP

There are records that defined a scene, and then there's Death Church. Released in 1983 on Corpus Christi Records, Rudimentary Peni's debut LP arrived fully formed and unlike anything else crawling out of the UK anarcho-punk underground at the time. Nick Blinko's vocals sit somewhere between a séance and a breakdown, the riffs lurch with deliberate, lurching menace, and the whole thing is drenched in the kind of deathrock atmosphere that most bands spend careers failing to manufacture. This isn't punk that aged into respectability. It stayed weird, stayed dark, stayed essential.

Death Church sits at the exact intersection of anarcho politics and gothic horror that made Crass Records so vital and so strange, while sounding like it came from somewhere even further outside. The artwork alone, Blinko's obsessive linework spilling across every surface, tells you this band was operating on a different frequency entirely. It belongs in the collection of anyone serious about dark alternative music, deathrock, or the outer edges of the hardcore punk tradition.
