Rob Zombie has always understood something most people in heavy music forget, that horror and groove are the same thing in different lighting. Hillbilly Deluxe 2 is the 2010 follow-up to his 2006 solo return, and it keeps the throttle down on the same fuel mix of industrial crunch, B-movie swagger, and riffs that belong on a drive-in cinema double bill.

Where some artists in the industrial metal and groove metal space get cold and mechanical, Zombie gets weird and sleazy in the best possible sense. There's a legitimate lineage here running from White Zombie through his solo work that rewards anyone who's ever watched The Devil's Rejects and immediately needed to know what was playing. This one belongs in the same shelf as your Manson records and your horror paperbacks.
