Power metal has a theatre problem, and Powerwolf are absolutely leaning into it.

The German band arrived with Lupus Dei in 2007 and immediately established their whole deal, werewolves, orthodox iconography, church organ breakdowns, and absolutely unhinged double bass drumming. It shouldn't work as hard as it does. The Lupus Dei cover art is all gothic grandeur and wolf mythology, which makes for a patch that sits somewhere between dark aesthetic devotion and gleeful heavy metal pageantry.
