Power metal is a genre that looked at subtlety and decided to build a cathedral instead. Powerwolf, specifically, looked at that cathedral and added wolves, clergy, and a full choir. They are not for everyone. They are for exactly the right people.

The German band have spent the better part of two decades weaponising gothic imagery, operatic vocals and shamelessly enormous riffs into something that sounds like a midnight mass conducted by werewolves, which is precisely the appeal.
