POISON IDEA: Blank Blackout Vacant Vinyl 2LP

Portland's most self-destructive export put out records the way they lived, fast, heavy, and with complete disregard for their own survival. Blank Blackout Vacant, the fourth studio album from Poison Idea, arrived in 1992 when most of the American hardcore punk scene had already splintered or gone soft. They didn't.

This is the record where Jerry A and the band pushed their sound into something uglier and more expansive, the guitars fatter, the tempos more bruising, the whole thing carrying the weight of people who had genuinely lived badly and were documenting it in real time. Poison Idea occupy a specific pantheon in hardcore, mentioned alongside the Germs and Black Flag but always with a footnote about how they took it further and meant it more. This double LP gives that chaos the room it deserves.
