Dimebag Darrell was operating at a level that still sounds unreal thirty years later, and Phil Anselmo was somewhere between a force of nature and a man possessed. This is the record with "I'm Broken," "5 Minutes Alone," and a cover of Black Flag's "My War" that felt less like a tribute and more like a declaration. Pantera didn't soften the edges for mainstream success, they sharpened them and watched the mainstream come to them. Essential for any serious heavy music collection.
