Diaphonisation is the process of clearing the flesh to near-transparency and staining the skeletal and cartilaginous structures, revealing the alien internal architecture of the animal in ghostly, vivid colour. An octopus, already one of nature's most unsettling and brilliant creatures, becomes something else entirely under this treatment. Part science, part dark art, entirely mesmerising. Displayed in a globe, it sits somewhere between specimen jar and snow globe, which is exactly as strange and wonderful as it sounds. Ethically sourced.
