Coldwave is having a moment, but Nuevo Cuerpo sound like they missed the memo and just made the record they wanted to make anyway.

This US act lands somewhere between the spectral synth dread of early 4AD and the blunt rhythmic force of post-punk's harder edge, the kind of music that sounds equally at home in a dim bar at midnight or through headphones on a tram through a grey Melbourne winter. The self-titled debut does what a good first record should, it establishes a world you want to spend time in, even if that world is a little unsettling. For collectors who take their dark aesthetic seriously and their cassette shelves even more so.
