NORTHLANE Mesmur Vinyl

Before Node, before Marcus Bridge, there was Mesmur. Northlane's 2014 sophomore record captured a band mid-evolution, still working through their own mythology and coming out the other side with something dense, atmospheric, and punishing in the best possible way.

Vocalist Adrian Fitipaldes was still at the helm, and Mesmur sits in a particular pocket of Australian metalcore history that deserves more reverence than it gets. Tracks like Masquerade and Aspire showed a band thinking in layers, building prog-metal architecture that their peers on the local scene simply weren't attempting. If you came to Northlane through Node or Alien, going back to Mesmur is the kind of thing that makes you appreciate just how far they'd already come.
