MINDLESS SELF INDULGENCE On It EP (2008)

Before hyperpop existed as a genre with a name, Jimmy Urine was already doing it louder, weirder, and with significantly more eyeliner. Mindless Self Indulgence spent the mid-2000s being too electronic for the punk kids and too punk for the electronic kids, which meant they were doing something exactly right.

The On It EP came out in 2008 when MSI were riding the strange cultural peak of their career, scoring a major label deal without softening a single serrated edge. This is the sound of industrial aggression cut with ADHD pop structure and a complete refusal to take anyone's genre rules seriously. If you came to the alternative scene through Nine Inch Nails and stayed for Atari Teenage Riot, this sits comfortably in that lineage. A slice of dark electronic punk history for seven bucks, which frankly feels criminal.
