MAYHEM Ordo Ad Chao CD

Mayhem have spent decades being the most dangerous idea in black metal, and Ordo Ad Chao is the record that proved they still meant it. Released in 2007 with Attila Csihar back behind the mic and Blasphemer pushing the guitars into genuinely hostile territory, it landed like a rejection of everything comfortable about the genre they helped invent.

This isn't Mayhem coasting on De Mysteriis infamy. Ordo Ad Chao is raw, dissonant, and deliberately ugly in the best possible way, a record that sounds like it was recorded inside a collapsing structure. The production choices alone make it a document of conviction in an era when a lot of black metal had gone either polished or performatively grim. This limited edition metal slipcase pressing is the version worth owning.
