This is not nostalgia. Where lesser bands coast on corpse paint and reputation, Mayhem pushed into stranger, colder territory here, working with Teloch and Ghul to build something angular and alien. Attila Csihar's vocals remain one of the most singular instruments in extreme music, equal parts ritual incantation and cosmic horror.
