When Jorn Lande left Masterplan after their debut, a lot of people assumed that was it. Then Mike DiMeo stepped in and the Germans went ahead and made MK.II anyway, which says everything you need to know about the band's stubbornness and, frankly, their quality control.

MK.II sits firmly in the European power metal tradition, all soaring choruses, Roland Grapow's guitar work doing the heavy lifting, and a production job that hasn't dated as badly as you'd expect from 2007. If you came up on Helloween, Rage, or the Uli Jon Roth era of Scorpions, this is your frequency. Power metal gets written off constantly in metal circles, and records like this are exactly why that's a mistake worth correcting.
