Malevolent Creation have been doing this since before most of today's death metal bands were born, grinding out of Florida in the late eighties with a sound that sat somewhere between the surgical brutality of Morbid Angel and the street-level aggression of Obituary. They are not a legacy act coasting on reputation. They tour like they have something to prove.

Death From Down Under captures their 2009 Australian run on film, which means this DVD is basically a document of death metal doing what it does best in front of an audience that knew every word. Australian death metal crowds have always punched above their weight, and watching a US band this deep in the canon bring it to this country is exactly the kind of thing that belongs in a collection. Raw, loud, and completely without pretense, the way the genre is supposed to be.
