LONG VOYAGE BACK Close To Animal CD
Australian death metal has always had a particular kind of brutality to it, something in the soil, and Long Voyage Back were part of the early 2000s underground that kept that tradition ugly and honest.
Close to Animal came out of Melbourne in 2002 and sits in that death/prog space where the technicality never gets in the way of the violence. It's a document of a scene that didn't care about overseas approval, and that self-sufficiency is exactly what Australian metal has always worn as a badge. If you know Destroyer 666 or Bestial Warlust, you understand the lineage. This one belongs in the collection of anyone serious about the local dark music history.
