Before the discourse, before the think pieces, before everyone had an opinion about nu metal's legacy, there was Reanimation, the 2002 remix album that made it genuinely cool to admit you owned Hybrid Theory.

Fort Minor hadn't happened yet. The underground production credits on that record, Pharoahe Monch, Chali 2na, Orgy's Jay Gordon, read like a fever dream of early 2000s alternative and hip-hop crossover. Reanimation was Linkin Park at their most experimental, and this flag represents that era, before the word nu metal became something people said apologetically. No apologies here. The dark aesthetic holds up.
