Iced Earth have been doing the heavy, cinematic, slightly-unhinged power metal thing since 1985, long before it was acceptable to take that seriously in certain circles.

Plagues of Dystopia landed in 2012 as a concept EP built around their dystopian horror mythology, the kind of record that arrives with its own internal logic and demands you meet it there. This 2023 RSD pressing comes as a 12" picture disc, which is the correct format for music this theatrical. The artwork lives on the vinyl itself, the riffs are as enormous as the subject matter, and the whole thing sits at the intersection of classic US power metal and something with actual teeth. Jon Schaffer's songwriting has always leaned hard into the kind of dark narrative that suits this store perfectly.
