The Pestis variant of Hebephrenique's Non Compos Mentis is the rarer of the two limited pressings from this Melbourne black metal project, and at 35 copies it sits firmly in the territory of genuine collector artefact. Hebephrenique operates in the same dark vein as Australia's long tradition of misanthropic underground black metal, the kind that gets traded in hushed tones between people who own too many records and apologise for none of them. The music is as bleak and dissonant as the pressing is scarce.
