The Oakland death/thrash/grindcore collective returned in 2016 with Dungeon Bastards, a record that leans hard into their dungeon-dwelling mythology without sacrificing a single riff. It is chaotic, melodic where it wants to be, and deeply committed to the bit in a way that Toxic Holocaust and Municipal Waste fans will clock immediately. The production hits harder than the previous records, and the songwriting is tight enough that you forget it is also a conceptual joke told entirely straight. Crossover thrash with horror theatrics and a genuine sense of humour about metal's dumbest and best tendencies.
