1993. Stockholm. Entombed decided that death metal needed a backbeat you could actually feel in your chest, and recorded one of the most controversial, essential, and flat-out great albums the Swedish scene ever produced.

Wolverine Blues is the record where Entombed nailed the coffin shut on what people thought death metal was allowed to be. The Sunlight Studios buzzsaw tone is still there, but underneath it is groove, confidence, and a band that had clearly been listening to a lot of Motörhead and wasn't apologetic about it. Some purists lost their minds. Everyone else gained an obsession with death n' roll that's never really gone away. Tracks like Eyemaster and Rotten Soil hit like a truck doing about ninety. The title track remains one of the most perfect three-and-a-half minutes in extreme music.
