EAGLE TWIN The Feather Tipped The Serpent's Scale (2012) Digipak CD

Greg Anderson and Gentry Densley made a record that sounds like the desert is trying to kill you. Eagle Twin's second album takes the sludge and doom framework Anderson helped build at Sunn O))) and drags it through Utah mythology, Densley's howling violin, and riffs so heavy they leave marks.

The Feather Tipped The Serpent's Scale is a two-part ritual, conceptually dense and sonically crushing. Where a lot of doom metal is content to just be slow and loud, Eagle Twin adds a literary, almost shamanic weight. Densley's vocals are feral and searching, and the whole thing builds like a slow geological event rather than a rock record. If you're already deep in the Southern Lord catalogue, this fits perfectly. If you're not, this is a reasonable place to start your descent.
