DYSTOPIA - Human = Garbage Vinyl 2xLP

There are heavy records and then there is Human = Garbage. Dystopia were operating at a frequency that most bands weren't willing to go near, a Bay Area crust punk and sludge metal record so bleak and so deliberate it sounds like it was recorded inside a collective bad decision. Released in 1994, it spent years as a cult object, the kind of thing people described in hushed tones at record fairs.

The Tankcrimes reissue exists because some records are too important to stay out of print. Dystopia drew from the same poisoned well as Amebix and Grief but arrived somewhere entirely their own, heavy and slow and uncompromising in a way that influenced an entire generation of dark and heavy music without most of them knowing where it came from. This is crust punk for people who think crust punk doesn't go far enough. The 2xLP format gives the record room to breathe, which is more than it deserves and exactly what it needs.
