Dungeon were quietly one of the best power metal bands Australia ever produced, and The Final Chapter was exactly what the title promised, which made it hurt a little more than it should have.

Released in 2006, this was the Melbourne act's farewell record, a clean, driving slab of thrash-inflected power metal that held its head up next to the European acts they were clearly influenced by. Luke Van Haren's vocals had no business being that good in a local band that most of the world never got to hear. Tracks like Pariah and Better Man land with the kind of melodic punch that rewards repeat listens, and the album as a whole is a reminder that Australian metal has always punched above its weight when it bothered to show up. This is the sort of Australian alternative music history that deserves shelf space.
