In 1987, D.R.I. did something that made purists on both sides uncomfortable, and that's exactly why it still holds up. Crossover was the record where hardcore and thrash metal stopped eyeing each other from across the parking lot and just started playing together, and Dirty Rotten Imbeciles had the riffs and the fury to make it feel inevitable rather than calculated.

The album gave a name to an entire subgenre and influenced a lineage of bands that runs from the skate-thrash scene straight through to modern crossover acts still mining the same pit of noise.
