By 1998, Vicotnik had already decided that Norwegian black metal's second wave was a box he had no interest of staying in. "Satanic Art" is the EP where Dodheimsgard started pulling the whole genre sideways.

Sitting between the rawer early work and the full industrial-avant-garde derangement of "666 International," this release is the sound of a band deliberately dismantling expectations. There are traces of the cold Norwegian black metal orthodoxy, but they're being bent into something stranger, more experimental, and considerably more unsettling. DHG have always been a band for people who found the rest of black metal too predictable, and "Satanic Art" is a document of exactly when that started. A genuine piece of the genre's history, and not one you come across every day at this price.
