When Dani Filth steps away from CRADLE OF FILTH to front a different project, the sensible assumption is more of the same. DEVILMENT is not more of the same.

The Great And Secret Show, their 2014 debut, lands somewhere between gothic metal grandeur and something genuinely sleazy and strange, drawing on that Clive Barker novel of the same name and leaning into the theatrical darkness that Dani has always done best but here given more room to breathe. It's heavier on atmosphere than blast beats, closer in spirit to MOONSPELL or DARKSEED than anything in the Cradle back catalogue. For fans of the dark aesthetic who want their metal with a little more theatre and a little less orthodoxy, this one has aged well.
