DEVILMENT II: The Mephisto Waltzes (2016) CD
Dani Filth's side project is where he gets to be goth without the full Cradle of Filth production budget, and honestly it suits him. Devilment leans harder into gothic metal's theatrical DNA, the dark cabaret energy, the horror imagery, the sense that everyone involved is having a genuinely good time being dramatic about it.
The Mephisto Waltzes is the second record and finds the band more confident in their own identity. The gothic rock influences are more upfront here, nods to the darker end of the alternative spectrum sitting alongside the metal machinery. The title is lifted from John Mephisto, a collection of diabolical piano pieces by Franz Liszt, which tells you exactly the level of commitment to the aesthetic these people are operating at. No half measures.
