Australian black/death metal does not get the international recognition it deserves, and Denouncement Pyre are one of the clearest examples of why that's a cultural oversight.

Melbourne's Denouncement Pyre have been doing the real work since 2003, and Black Sun, their 2016 full length, is one of the more vicious things to come out of the Australian underground in that decade. No atmosphere for atmosphere's sake, no clean production softening the edges, just aggressive, well-constructed black/death that sounds like it was written by people who take this seriously and have no interest in trends. This is the kind of record that makes other countries realise Australia's extreme metal scene is not a footnote. If you're sleeping on local metal, this is a good place to wake up.
