There is a particular strain of Australian black metal that sounds like it was recorded in a mine shaft and consecrated in blood, and Denouncement Pyre are its standard bearers. Almighty Arcanum from 2012 is the record that cemented their place in the global underground.

Where a lot of black/thrash lands as aesthetic exercise, this one has genuine malice behind it. Melbourne's Denouncement Pyre understood the assignment as set by Bestial Warlust and Gospel of the Horns before them and pushed it forward into something more ferocious and structurally unhinged. This is Australian extreme metal at its most uncompromising, and it belongs in a collection next to the names below.
