Before Dax Riggs went solo, he spent the nineties fronting Acid Bath, one of the most singular and genuinely unsettling bands to ever crawl out of Louisiana. That legacy looms large, but We Sing Of Only Blood Or Love is its own creature entirely, a record that leans into swamp rock and gothic Americana with the kind of melodic doom that feels like it was written in a room with no windows and too many candles.

Released in 2007 under the Deadboy & The Elephantmen banner and later attributed to Riggs himself, this is the sound of a man who absorbed the Delta blues, filtered it through a seriously dark aesthetic, and came out the other side with something that sounds like Nick Cave fronting a Southern funeral procession. Fans of The White Stripes' raw minimalism and Agents of Oblivion's murky swamp gospel will find a lot to love here. It rewards patience and volume.
