CURSE Cursed Be Thy Name CD-EP (2001)

Iceland in 2001 was quietly doing things in black metal that most of the world wasn't paying attention to yet. Curse were part of that frozen, underlit scene, and Cursed Be Thy Name is the proof of concept.

Viking and black metal from Iceland carries a particular weight, geographically and spiritually, lava fields and long winters tend to do something to a riff. This mini album lands in the tradition of raw, pagan-inflected black metal with enough Viking grandeur to feel genuinely rooted in place rather than cosplay. It's a hard find from a scene that never got the international coverage it deserved, which is exactly why it's here. If your shelves already have Mork, Ragnarok, or Darkened Nocturn Slaughtercult, there's a clear gap where this belongs.
