CHORONZON Magog Agog CD (1998)

Industrial black metal from the mid-nineties occupies a very specific kind of darkness, and Choronzon were operating at the outer edge of it. Magog Agog, released in 1998, sits at the intersection of machine-worship and ritual chaos, the kind of record that sounds like it was recorded inside a collapsing factory during a summoning.

Choronzon pull from the same blackened industrial well as Mysticum and Godkiller, but there's a distinct American chaos magick undercurrent running through this thing. William Bennett could appreciate the noise. Anton LaVey might've put it on at a party. It's confrontational, mechanical, and genuinely unsettling in all the right ways. A document of a moment when black metal was still figuring out what it could absorb from industrial and electronic music before the scene calcified into orthodoxy.
