There are a handful of records that define what Australian extreme metal actually sounds like when it stops pretending to be Scandinavian. Blood & Valour is one of them. Melbourne's Bestial Warlust put this out in 1995 and it remains a landmark in the war metal and black/death underground.

Raw, chaotic, and completely committed, this is the album that announced there was something genuinely dangerous happening in the Australian metal scene. The production is filth-forward, the tempos alternate between a wall of noise and a slower, grinding punishment, and the whole record operates with the kind of conviction that makes polished modern releases feel like they were assembled by committee. If you care about the history of Australian extreme metal, this one belongs in the collection.
