ARNOCORPS: The Unbelievable Vinyl LP

The concept was simple and completely unhinged: take the plots of Arnold Schwarzenegger films, treat them as actual historical events, and perform them as anthems of heroic hard rock. ArnoCorps, self-described purveyors of "Hardcore Adventure Rock," are a San Francisco band built entirely on this premise, and somehow it works because they genuinely commit. This is not ironic detachment. This is full belief.

Originally released in 2005 under the gloriously absurd title The Greatest Band Of All Time, The Unbelievable is exactly what it sounds like, and more. The riffs are legitimately heavy, the energy is legitimately punk, and the lyrics are a love letter to a specific era of action cinema that hits different if you grew up renting VHS tapes from a servo. Somewhere between metal, punk, and performance art, this belongs in the same shelf space as bands who understood that genre can be a vehicle for something weirder than itself.
