ARCHITECTS: Holy Hell Vinyl LP (Translucent Pink)

Holy Hell was written in the shadow of the worst thing that can happen to a band. Guitarist Tom Searle died in 2016 after a years-long battle with cancer, and his brother Dan, the drummer, had to decide whether Architects continued at all. They did. This album is the reason.

Released in 2018, Holy Hell sits at the heavier, more emotionally brutal end of the UK metalcore scene, a genre Brighton's Architects had been quietly dominating for years before the rest of the world caught up. The grief on this record is not subtle and it doesn't try to be, it's enormous, architectural, the kind of sound that fills a room and then keeps going. On translucent pink vinyl, which is maybe the most unlikely format for one of the decade's most devastatingly sincere metal records, and yet here we are. It looks incredible.
