Finnish death metal bands were never supposed to get this good at melody. Amorphis didn't get the memo.

By 2003's Far From The Sun, Amorphis had already shed their pure death metal origins and were deep into something harder to name, progressive structures, folk undertones, death growls trading off against clean vocals, all wrapped in a dark aesthetic that felt ancient and modern at once. It's the sound of a band from the land of Kalevala doing whatever they wanted, and it paying off completely. This red and blue marble vinyl reissue is a worthy way to own it, the kind of record that earns its place on the shelf next to your Opeth and your Paradise Lost.
