Aleister Crowley Thoth Tarot Deck

Before there was a subculture, there was Crowley, annoying the establishment, rewriting the rules and leaving behind a body of occult work that people are still arguing about a century later. The Thoth Tarot is his most usable legacy.

Crowley designed this deck in collaboration with Lady Frieda Harris, who painted the cards during the early years of World War II, no small undertaking. Harris brought her study of projective geometry into the work, which gives the Thoth its distinctive sense of depth and motion, cards that seem to shift when you look at them sideways. The result is one of the most philosophically dense and visually distinct decks ever made, a cornerstone of Western esotericism that's found its way onto the shelves of everyone from serious Thelemites to the kind of punks who read Chaos Magick paperbacks between gigs. The imagery draws on the Kabbalah, astrology, Egyptian mythology and Crowley's own Thelemic system, which means the learning curve is real, but the rewards match it.
