AGHAST VIEW, Carcinopest (1998) CD

Brazil was not supposed to produce one of the more interesting EBM acts of the late nineties, and yet here we are. Aghast View arrived out of São Paulo with a sound that had no business being that locked-in, and Carcinopest from 1998 is the record that put them on the map for anyone paying attention to the harder end of the industrial and electronic underground at the time.

Carcinopest sits in the grim, functional zone of classic EBM, heavy sequenced bass, vocals pitched somewhere between aggression and fatigue, the whole thing moving with the kind of mechanical urgency that made this genre essential. It's a document of a moment when the global industrial scene was genuinely international, and São Paulo was pulling its weight. Dark aesthetic, zero concessions.
