Some bands make heavy music. The Acacia Strain make music that feels like the ground is trying to reclaim you. Gravebloom is the sound of deathcore slowing down, getting denser, and deciding that slow-motion obliteration hits harder than speed ever did.

Released in 2017, this is arguably their most complete record, a grinding, suffocating crawl through sludge, deathcore and doom-adjacent misery that rewards anyone willing to sit inside the discomfort. Vincent Bennett's vocals have never been more nihilistic, and the guitar work is all weight and no mercy. If your dark aesthetic extends past the wardrobe and into the speakers, this one belongs in the collection alongside your Whitechapel and your Job for a Cowboy, but Gravebloom operates on its own slow, ugly frequency.
