Outstrider, his second solo record, lands in 2019 and picks up exactly where a man who looks like a corpse-painted Viking pirate should, somewhere between the frozen north and a Monster Energy sponsored apocalypse.

If you know Abbath, you know the deal: ice-cold Norwegian black metal riffs, that unmistakable mid-range rasp, blastbeats that feel like a blizzard hitting a motorbike doing 160 on the E6. Outstrider leans harder into hard rock instincts than his debut, which either thrills you or it doesn't, but tracks like Harvest Pyre and Bridge of Spasms have no interest in your reservations. This is black metal with swagger, and in 2019 that still counts for something in the underground.
