WITCHGRINDER Haunted CD (2015)

Industrial thrash with a groove problem, the good kind. Witchgrinder came out of Australia making music that sat somewhere between a Primus bassline and a Sepultura rehearsal tape, and Haunted is the document of that particular obsession.

The tracklist opens with Into The Sleep and moves through Rigor Morti, which tells you everything about the band's sense of humour and their approach to riff construction. This is genre-blending done with actual conviction, industrial texture sitting over thrash aggression over a groove metal backbone, the kind of combination that only works when the band genuinely listens to all three. A 2015 release that still sounds like it came from somewhere slightly outside the mainstream, which is exactly where the good Australian heavy music tends to live.
