Whitechapel named themselves after a street in Knoxville, Tennessee, and then proceeded to make some of the most brutally precise deathcore of the 2010s. Mark of the Blade, their 2016 full-length, is where the band started pulling against the genre's guardrails, letting melody and groove creep into the breakdowns without losing a gram of the heaviness that built their reputation. It divides purists and that's exactly why it's worth owning.

This limited deluxe edition is the version to track down. Twelve bonus tracks alongside the main album means you're getting a serious document of where the band was at during this era, plus the physical extras that make a box set worth the shelf space. Deathcore as a genre doesn't get enough credit for how seriously its best acts take the craft, and Whitechapel have always been near the top of that conversation.
