The Way of the Vaselines: A Complete History is exactly what it sounds like, everything Eugene Kelly and Frances McKee recorded for their original run out of Glasgow between 1987 and 1990. Fuzzed-out guitars, deadpan Catholic guilt, lo-fi bedroom production, and a knack for pop melody that the grunge explosion later borrowed heavily from without always giving credit. This 1992 Sub Pop compilation put them on the map for a whole generation of alternative music obsessives who'd heard the Nirvana connection and needed to go back to the source. It still sounds great, slightly ramshackle in exactly the right way.
