USED, (The) - Vulnerable II (2013) CD

The Used were always more interesting than their detractors gave them credit for, and Vulnerable II is the proof in the form of bonus cuts and B-sides that deserved better than a drawer somewhere in a Utah studio.

Released the year after the Vulnerable sessions, this companion disc fills out the picture of where Bert McCracken and the band were sitting emotionally and sonically, deep in post-hardcore territory with post-punk shadows creeping at the edges. The Used at this point were not chasing trends, they were doing whatever the hell they wanted, which is exactly the energy that kept them interesting long after their mid-2000s peak. For anyone who already has Vulnerable, this is the missing half. For newcomers, start with the original and then come straight here.
